House Training: Puppy Tips you can Use

If you own a dog, this will be a familiar experience to you. When you look at the adorable puppy face, the little canine looking at you through his crate yearns to be a member of your family. So, you bring him home and soon realize that House training your puppy gets on to the top of your agenda, atleast for some time. But, you should be ready for the patience, consistency and the large amount of time needed to teach the puppy the right place to relieve himself.  You know this only too well.

What Not to Do

Puppy House training has two different schools of thought. One works, and the other does not. Ahead of discussing the proper methods to house train puppies, let us discuss approaches that do not work.  If you envisage puppy house training as one chasing your pup all around the house with piece of wood, paper or anything handy, rubbing his nose in the mess that he created, ofcourse to teach him what is wrong, can be counter productive. Not only that, this method can also permanently damage your relationship with your new dog.

Punishment method does not work here since your dog does not understand what the punishment is for. When you rub his nose on the most latent mess that he made, at best it can only help scare the animal. Your unhappiness on the mess that he created does not get conveyed. He will understand your anger. Instead, if you manage to catch him while in the act, pick him up with a firm ‘no’ and lead him out of the house, to the right spot, your puppy will understand the training. Naturally, this is an effective method.

What to Do

Let us now look at the type of training that works. The crate method of training has been known to be the most effective method of training puppies. Inside the crate, your pup is secure and safe and can do no damage. Probably, he will not relieve himself inside the crate due to the natural instinct that dogs have to keep the place they sleep in, tidy and clean. So, your puppy will gradually learn to hold its urge until it is in the right place to relieve. If you ensure that a little fur ball goes out before your puppy is placed in his crate, and as soon as he is released, it can work wonders. Puppies have a natural instinct to please its masters. What they need are loads of positive reinforcement and instructions on what is expected of it.

Enjoy a great training
