Puppy toilet training using this method, involves devoting keen attention to the puppies signals. Your puppy needs to be trained to learn which door it should take to go outside to answer nature calls. In this method, you actually take the puppy outside the house for a leash, to a designated spot in the yard, and encourage the puppy to remember what is expected of it. Ensure to praise the puppy when it is done and never allow the puppy to start playing before it completes the excretion process.
Using the paper method for puppy toilet training is another method. This method calls for laying papers in a pre determined spot for the puppy to use. Special papers are also available for this purpose with many of the pet stores. The special scent in the paper draws the puppy towards it. In the initial stages, the owner however, will look out for the puppy’s signals when it gets the urge to relieve, and lead the puppy towards the paper. As the puppy picks up the habit of using the paper, the owner will keep taking the papers away, making the area smaller. Eventually, the papers will be moved closer to the exit door and then the puppy will be lead outside the house to relieve itself.
Just in case you catch your puppy relieving itself in space not allocated for the purpose, do not yell at it. Yelling will not help either the puppy or the owner, since the canine will not understand the reason behind the anger. Your pet will only be confused. Instead, you can stay calm, tell the puppy ‘no’ in a firm tone and then lead him outside. Once he is finished, give him a pat and praise him. Puppies respond faster to positive reinforcements rather than punishment.
